Last friday Han and I escaped to London for a ‘research trip’…the day began with a visit to Les Trois Garcons (www.loungelover.co.uk) a quirky styled restaurant situated in shoreditch. From the outside it looks like a fairly normal pub but inside is a treasure chest of decorative treats. Vintage handbags hang from the ceiling scattered among the crystal chandeliers, every surface is crammed with delights; all the objects were draped or encrusted with glistening jewels. It was like walking into a fairy tale. The French maitre de was very charming and let us take as many photos as we liked so after a good couple of hours we walked back to the station at a snails pace so we could say ‘oh it’s lunch time, lets stop at Pizza East!’ But happened to stubble upon Labour and Wait (www.labourandwait.co.uk) on Redchurch street on our way. The green tiled exterior definitely caught our eyes, Labour and Wait is a very classy hardware shop, selling practical items such as garden tools, an assortment of brushes, twine, candles, tea towels and some beautiful leather satchels (that Han and I were lusting over).

Pizza East is one of the lushiest pizza places in London, the interior is exactly how I envisage my kitchen looking when I have a house of my own (and am filthy rich!) Its a converted tea warehouse with lovely wood flooring, exposed brick walls, leather seating, white and green tiles, refectory tables..need I go on? LUSH! I had the San Daniele which had ham, ricotta, spinach, and pesto, it’s making my mouth water just thinking about it ha.

After lunch we, (ok I) decided we’d walk on to our next destination the Museum of London (www.museumoflondon.org.uk) we wanted to see the Cheapside hoard, a treasure of 400 jewels and gemstones that had been discovered under the cellar floor of a 17th century house in Cheapside. Unfortunately it had been taken away for cleaning as there will be a large exhibition all about it at the end of summer - just our luck! We had a mooch around the museum anyway and came across a few other beauties that were of interest. Then around 4ish we both collapsed blaming the shared salted caramel chocolate tart plus the all day walking fest for our lack of stamina and decided to head back to waterloo.

I’ve been selected from my class to enter the Royal Society of Art Design Awards 11/12, the brief that I designed for was the ‘Tomorrow’s workplace’ brief, the aim was to design the work place of the future for greater flexibility and better environmental performance.

The design I have posted is a wall piece inspired by reflection and distorted shapes, the wall piece is made out of felt pieces that absorb noise pollution, creating a quiet, peaceful environment. The design could be used in a reception area or within an office itself, it would be particularly useful in a telecommunications office.
